Colin Melville...

I’m a musician from the Highlands of Scotland, specialising in Highland and Lowland bagpipes and whistles. My work bridges the rich heritage of traditional Scottish music with fresh, contemporary expression — on stage, in the studio, and in the classroom.

I have been immersed in Scottish music all my life and have built my professional career over the last 25+ years.

From 2001-2014, I toured internationally as a member of the legendary Tannahill Weavers, performing extensively across Europe and North America. Working with such experienced and knowledgeable musicians was incredibly rewarding and invaluable for my musical development. And even better, I got to share that experience with wonderful audiences across the world, from intimate folk clubs to concert halls to festival crowds.

In 2014 I moved to South Australia where I enjoyed several fulfilling years teaching and performing. Since then, I have returned to the Highlands, where I continue to share my passion as a performer, composer, and instructor. I work with learners of all ages and levels, helping them find their voice on the pipes or whistles, whether they’re picking up an instrument for the first time or preparing for the competition stage.

Over the last several years I have been very fortunate to collaborate closely with world-class musicians from Scotland, Australia and New Zealand, composing and arranging music for competitions, performance and recordings. These partnerships are a rewarding way to stay connected to the piping community around the world and to contribute to a tradition that continues to grow and evolve through shared creativity.

This website is a space to explore my musical journey. It features original compositions, arrangements, audio recordings, typesetting and book design projects, and educational resources for pipers and whistle players. It’s also a hub for anyone looking to collaborate, book a performance, or find tailored tuition. Whether you're a student, fellow musician, event organiser, or simply a fan of Celtic and folk traditions — welcome.

Let’s keep the culture, tradition, and music alive and evolving.
